Driver Help for Xbox 360 Controller

Let me start off by saying that drivers are by far my worst enemy in this PC World even though they seem so self explanatory. ANYWAY, I just purchased a wired Xbox 360 Controller from gamestop (PLAY gaming accessories, Metallics LE). Came home, plugged her in, could not find drivers. Alright a quick google search....BAM Xbox 360 wired controller drivers straight from Microsoft's website. Install, everything is great. Plug in my controller and the lights flash green for 1 second on the computer and then I receive the 'disconnect/could not find drivers' sound from windows. Try to bring up the interface and there's no recognition. Go to my devices, notice the little yellow triangle beside my Xbox Controller, Open Properties, Troubleshoot, says we need to find driver software? Alright I have it search the internet and...nothing. What am I missing here? I manually installed the drivers from Microsoft website and ran the program and my computer isn't recognizing it. Been on Google for 2+ Hours now, thought Id ask you Glorious Bastards for some help. Thanks much appreciated!

On Windows 7 and earlier versions of Windows, you can use Device Manager to help troubleshoot problems with your controller, see whether the correct items are listed, and to make sure there are no conflicts.

Note A conflict is marked by a yellow exclamation point in Device Manager.

To use Device Manager, follow these steps:

Gamestop Wired Xbox 360 Controller

  1. Select Start, then Run, then type sysdm.cpl, and then select OK.
  2. On the Hardware tab, select Device Manager.
  3. When the controller is successfully installed, you see three entries in Device Manager. There should be two entries under Human Interface Devices:
    • HID-compliant game controller
    • USB Human Interface Device
Additionally, there should be a third entry in under Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class:
    • Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
  4. If you see yellow exclamation points next to any of these entries, there's a problem with the installation. If there's a problem for either of the entries under Human Interface Devices, first verify that the problem is caused by the controller by unplugging it. If a hardware conflict with the controller was causing the problem, the yellow exclamation point will no longer appear after the controller is unplugged.

To resolve controller problems in Device Manager, try these solutions one at a time (move to the next solution only if the one you’re trying fails to resolve your problem):
